Possible Compost Site east of Ashington

The latest version of the West Sussex Minerals and Waste Development Framework includes a new waste site in Ashington. The WSCC website information can be found here. You need to click to “view and comment Version2” which takes you to here.
Background paper 6 – appendix E (page 27) and Horsham map 8 shows a potential for a new “Open Composting Facility” at Broadbridge Farm in Ashington (click here for map).
Residents can email any comments they might have about the application to mwdf@westsussex.gov.uk
Deadline for comments Friday 26th February 2010

The very brief details provided at this stage mention:
  • 2.6ha site
  • potential new access from the A24
  • depositing 60,000 tonnes per annum of compostable waste (brown topped bins)
  • this equates to 30 lorries in and out per day (a total of 60 lorry movements per day) plus additional lorries to take the composted material to other sites
  • These facilities must be located at least 250 meters away from homes (WSCC policy) and the planned location appears to be just 230 -250 meters away from the eastern edge of the main village
Police/Wardens Messages

Anti-social vehicle usage

If you see anti-social vehicle usage eg power-sliding, handbrake turns, excessive speed, tailgating etc then make a note of the registration number please report it to the Police on 0845 6070999 or www.operationcrackdown.org.uk. If a registration number is reported on 3 separate occasions then the Police will take action. The Police work on a 'reported incidents' basis so it is vital to tell them about incidents rather than sitting there and suffering in silence.

 Annual Report

To view a copy of the Council's Annual Report click here. Normally we would print these and deliver to all households but publisher problems meant severe delays and now the report feels like old news. For this reason we have decided not to send these out this year.
